Kathy is a fifth-generation Californian, born in Humboldt County, where she later graduated to become a registered nurse. Raised in the state parks, she was fortunate to grow up with a few horses and millions of trails to explore. She is the mother of six, stepmother to three, and also cherishes several “heart children” who have become part of her extended family.
Her love of teaching led her to become a certified flight instructor before returning to full-time nursing and later transitioning into travel nursing. Eventually, she settled in Tehama County with her husband, where they founded a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting mental, emotional, and relational health—drawing on the healing presence and partnership of horses. Their nonprofit served several local agencies, including Tehama County Mental Health and Social Services. Students from the continuation high school were regular visitors to her ranch, where they engaged in activities that built life skills and friendships.
In 2018, Kathy moved to Shasta County and began a new collaboration with a local nonprofit ranch. Horses remain central to her work, now as part of a team using a wellness curriculum she developed to serve the broader community. She is also an active member of the Bahá’í community in Redding and lives by the belief that a principle-focused life is a life of service.
For Kathy, being part of Developing Diamonds is a way to foster respectful connection, build healthy relationships, and express love for our Creator through service to humanity.
